I believe the best experiences are invisible! You only notice them when they're missing.

Who I am

Salutations, I'm Ash, a Senior Product Designer based in New York City with 5+ years designing discovery and shopping experiences. I care deeply about the gap between how things work and how things could feel, and I've spent my career obsessing over that difference.

I'm also, depending on the day: a student of acting, a learner of French and German (officially B-level, thank you very much), a lover of music, and someone who has always been drawn to the arts in every form. People tell me I have a Renaissance soul, which is great because I really do think we should always be learning something new and nurturing our personal growths.

When I'm not designing I'm probably busy planning my next trip.

What 5 months across 6 countries taught me about design

🇳🇿New Zealand🇦🇺Australia🇮🇳India🇹🇭Thailand🇻🇳Vietnam🇯🇵Japan
Japan

The seatbelt buckle glows in the dark. Nobody designed that to win an award — they designed it because finding a buckle in a dark car is frustrating. Then they fixed it.

Vietnam

When they hand you a fresh coconut, they carve a piece of the shell into a spoon. One material. One motion. Two problems solved before you thought to ask.

Japan

A small metal dot on the wall near the elevator. Touch it before pressing the button to discharge the static you collected walking across the carpet. Invisible until you need it. Perfect when you do.

Six countries. Five months. One lesson: great design is the same everywhere. The language changes, the aesthetic changes, the culture changes but one thing kept standing out: the best design solves a problem before you've even admitted it's a problem.

What I do

I specialize in discovery and shopping experiences: the moments when someone is looking for something but doesn't quite know what yet. I've spent years designing for that in-between state, the browsing, the comparing, the almost-deciding, and figuring out what actually helps someone move forward instead of just adding more options.

I work across the full design process, from research and strategy through interaction design, motion, and design systems. How something looks matters, but I care just as much about why it was designed that way in the first place. That instinct doesn't turn off when I clock out. It's the same curiosity that has me noticing the small, thoughtful details in an airport terminal on the other side of the world, and it's what I bring to every brief I pick up.
